My name is Peter Lipman (MA MEd MMus LLB Hons FVCM ATCL DipMus DipABRSM Cert PTC) and I have over forty years’ teaching experience.
After a successful career in education and general management (including being a deputy director of education, a principal school and college inspector, five directorships and being an acting chief executive in councils), I decided in 2008 to concentrate on a career in music.
I hold a LLB Honours degree and three master’s degrees from Warwick, Brunel and the Open University. I am a fellow of Victoria College of Music. I have a diploma in music performance, another in musicology, and gained a distinction in the ATCL Teaching Diploma. I was awarded the European Piano Teachers’ Association Certificate with merit.
I studied the piano at school with Philip Martin and gained distinction in grade 8. I studied organ with Christopher Argent and Tim Hone at Coventry Cathedral, where I was a sub organist. I have also held posts as director of music at several churches – including St Mary’s Church, Hemel Hempstead; Central Methodist Hall, Coventry; St Mary’s Church, Luton; St Mary’s Church, North Mymms; and as an occasional organist at St Nicholas’ Church, Harpenden and St Mary’s Chruch, Apsley.
I regularly attend conferences and seminars to update my knowledge of new publications, examination syllabi and teaching techniques, and am a member of the European Piano Teachers Association. I am a reflective practitioner.
