Teaching style

Making music is at the heart of all my lessons. I provide a friendly, supportive and realistic learning environment. I firmly believe that everyone can improve even with limited time to invest. My aim is to create a rounded and passionate musician with a desire to continue with music for many years.

There are three complementary elements to my lessons:

  • Enjoyment and fun – this is the most important. Music making should be enjoyable and inspirational. My lessons build confidence and motivation, and help the student learn to express themselves through the piano.
  • Resources – my lessons follow a basic curriculum developed through years of experience, but shaped by the kind of music the individual student enjoys.
  • Structure – learning a skill involves mastering a whole range of sub-skills and acquiring new information.  Our work together is carefully planned and explained, and you are always encouraged to ask questions.

Each student is unique and given an individual and tailor-made approach. My overall aim is to help you learn how to teach yourself.  That is what practice really is – so that you can become independent.

“I enjoy learning from Peter.  He is musical, friendly and efficient in his teaching style, which all help me learn effectively and comfortably.”

“I look forward to my lessons very much, they really help with my Music A-level.”
